Meet XFL Prospect: Ernesto Lacayo, K, Seattle Dragons

Ernesto Lacayo the former NAIA standout kicker of the XFL’s Seattle Dragons recently sat down with NFL Draft Diamonds writer Justin Berendzen for this amazing interview. With the XFL wrapped up now, the prospects in the XFL have a chance to sign with an NFL team. Whether Ernesto joins the NFL or remains with the XFL he is a prospect you need to keep an eye on. How has the transition been to the XFL?

The transition to the XFL has been an overall easy transition. A lot of what I’ve learned from many years playing in arena football benefited me with the new rules of the e XFL.

What do you bring to the XFL?

What I bring to the XFL is experience and patience. 9 years of arena football teach you that. The discipline it has taken for me to get to the XFL is what I pride myself with. 

What is your favorite pre-game meal?

My favorite pre game meal is a fruit smoothie. I don’t like to eat anything heavy on game days and I feel a fruit smoothie has been what has worked for me throughout the years.

Did you watch wrestling as a child? If so who was your favorite wrestler?

I did watch a ton of wrestling as a child and I had many favorite wrestlers, but the ones I focused on most were Brett Hart, Eddie Guerrero, Macho Man, Edge and Hulk Hogan. 

What was your biggest knock when leaving college?

One thing I would like to continue working on about my kicking consistent Starting point. 

The XFL has established some new rules, what is your favorite rule that is different from the NFL?

My favorite new rule of the XFL is the KickOff. I think it’s more exciting to watch now due to its unpredictability. But most importantly how much more safer it is for players. 

Who is the best player on the opposite side of the field that the fans need to pay attention to?

The one player I was looking forward to playing against is my friend and mentor Nick Novak. 

Is there one player around the league that you are looking forward to playing against?

The best player to watch on the opposite side of the field would have to PJ Walker 

If you could sit down with any person dead or alive and could interview them, who would it be and what would you ask them?

The person I would sit down with would be Walter Payton . I would love to pick his brain about his journey and what it took to get where he did. 

What was your biggest individual goal you have this year?

The biggest individual goal I have this year is to prepare myself for an NFL opportunity. 

Who is your biggest supporter?

My biggest supporters are my parents and grandmother. Who always motivate me and my heroes. 

What do you think is your biggest attribute, that fans will love?

The biggest attribute fans will love about me is my never give up mentally and discipline. 

Do you have a nickname?

Most guys on my team call me Nes. 

What is your most memorable moment in life?

The most memorable moment in my life was winning a gold medal in Taekwondo in the Junior Olympics 

What is your favorite restaurant in Seattle?

Favorite restaurant in Seattle would have to be Lady Jaye.
