Diamond Talk: Jason Ferris, LB, Montana Western | NAIA’s best defensive player

I search every school in this nation and I found a kid that has NFL teams buzzing. The linebacker from Montana Western named Jason Ferris has been super impressive in his career, and this week he had three teams at his game against the College of Idaho.

When you look at Ferris, he looks like he would be a hunter with his long hair and amazing mustache, but the 6030, 230 pound linebacker is not playing around this year. He will tackle anyone and anything in his path to success.

The Dillon, Montana native has been super impressive. Ferris started all 10 games last year as a Junior and was a team captain. He finished with 125 tackles, 9.5 tackles for loss, 2 sacks, 12 PBU’s and 3 picks. Are you kidding me? This is a linebacker.

His Sophomore year, he was a force too. He played all 11 games, and racked up 92 tackles, 6.5 tackles for loss, 1 sack, 8 PBU’s and 2 interceptions. The kid is a force. You want to know the crazy thing? Look what he did as a Freshman.

He played in 11 games and finished with 85 tackles, 5.5 tackles for loss, one sack, three PBU’s and 2 interceptions with one being a house call. This kid is not a joke.

In high school, he led his team to three straight state championships, winning the title in 2013, and 2014. Yes, this is the NAIA, not many make the league, why is his at an NAIA school, I know you are questioning him, because that is what most critics do, but let me ask you this, find me a player that has put up this production in his career no matter the school. It is super impressive and the kid is a freak.

This year, Jason had 109 tackles before the College of Idaho game. He had 19 tackles the week before against Caroll. He has 11 tackles for loss, 4.5 sacks, 5 forced fumbles, and 7 pass break ups. So let’s do a tally of his stats in his career.

He has 411 tackles so far, 32.5 tackles for loss, 8.5 sacks, 30 PBU’s, 5 forced fumbles, and 7 interceptions. I do not care if you play at Montana Western that is a hell of a career young man. So now you can talk about him, because the kid is a beast. I am a fan.
