Five players fighting for the Defensive Rookie of the Year in the NFL

Nick Bosa is a force off the edge, and I think he will finish with the most sacks out of all the rookies. Right now the kid is ballin

The NFL is through 7 weeks and we are coming up on the midway point of the season. With that being said several rookies have really stepped up on the defensive side of the ball and I wanted to list five defensive players I think are deserving of the award of Defensive Rookie of the Year.  Let’s look at the players.

Nick Bosa, DE, San Francisco 49ers – Bosa may not lead the rookies in sacks but his presence of the edge is amazing. The former Ohio State Buckeye has 4 sacks and 16 tackles but also has a fumble force and a fumble recovered. The 49ers are also still undefeated and that is in large part because of Bosa’s edge presence. He right now is my favorite to win the DROY .

Josh Allen, DE, Jacksonville Jaguars – Right now the Jaguars could be sitting in the driver’s seat to have the OROY and the DROY. That would be an amazing draft. Allen leads all rookies with 5 sacks after 7 games. Allen has a motor and also has 21 tackles and a forced fumble.

Devin Bush, LB, Pittsburgh Steelers – You better add this guy on the list. He leads all rookies in tackles with 52, has 2 interceptions, and 1 sack. He has also recovered four (YES, FOUR) fumbles and scored 1 touchdown. Bush is an animal and if he keeps it up he could steal the victory over the other rookies.

Brian Burns, DE, Carolina Panthers – Panthers struck gold when they drafted the former Florida State Seminoles edge rusher. He has stupid speed and has already registered 4.5 sacks on the season in 7 games. He is on pace to break 10 sacks in his Freshman debut. That is impressive for an edge rusher.

Chase Winovich, DE, New England Patriots – I have to give it up to him, the kid raises hell off the edge. Winovich only had 9 tackles but 4 of them are sacks. That should say something. If they used him every play he may end up breaking the record in sacks. This kid has a bright future, and it upsets me that he will be raising hell in the AFC East for a while.
