What I would do if I was the Dolphins GM

Dolphins were busy working out guys this week
I like what the Dolphins are doing!

Yesterday, the Miami Dolphins traded another former first round draft pick to the Pittsburgh Steelers in return for a 2020 first round draft pick. I have been reading quite a bit on Twitter and other social media that the Dolphins are in full season tank mode and that maybe true but they are on a path to success.

Right now the Miami Dolphins currently own three first round draft picks in the 2020 NFL draft, two second round picks in the 2020 draft, and then two first and two seconds in the 2021 NFL draft.

I have read so many reports that the Miami Dolphins are just going to tank for Tu’a, But I would not do that. The Miami Dolphins do not know what they have in quarterback Josh Rosen that they acquired last year from the Arizona Cardinals. Rosen was one of my favorite quarterbacks coming out of the draft and I honestly believe with the right people around him he can be a success.

If the Dolphins are in complete tank mode then I would expect them to land the first overall pick in the 2020 NFL draft. With that being said the Dolphins would be crazy not to trade out of the first pick to land another first round pick in 2021 and an additional pick in the 2020 NFL draft.

Right now quarterbacks are going down left and right and there are no good back-up quarterbacks left in the entire NFL. Kyler Murray the first round pick for the Arizona Cardinals has thrown for 300 yards two weeks in a row. Many teams are going to be hungry for a quarterback but the Dolphins should not make that a priority even though it is a priority on their list.

If the Dolphins can somehow trade down a few pics to maybe the fourth or fifth pick in the draft to allow a lower team to come up and take their guy number one overall then they could obviously pick up another 2021 first round pick. If the Dolphins can land three first round picks in 2021 they would be crazy not to go after the best quarterback probably come out in the in the past several years in Trevor Lawrence of Clemson.

I was crushed last night by Raiders fans when I claimed that Reggie McKenzie the newest addition to the Dolphins Scouting staff as a senior assistant, when I said he was great at finding talent. But let me explain something, the Raiders cleared up tons of cap space With Mckenzie at the helm. The Raiders also drafted Khalil Mack and Amari Cooper and Gabe Jackson and Derek Carr do I need to keep going on. The Raiders had the most Space in the NFL and it allowed them to land Antonio Brown, and allowed them to land other big-name free agents, unfortunately Antonio Brown didn’t work out but those moves by Reggie McKenzie allowed to Raiders to make the moves. They also landed three first round picks for Mack and Cooper.

So here’s what I would do if I was the GM in Miami. I would try to trade out of the first pick in the 2020 NFL draft to pick up an additional 2020 pick by swapping picks with somebody as well as picking up a 2021 first round pick. This would still give me three picks in the first round of 2020 as well as three picks in the in the year of 2021.

I would continue to let Josh Rosen sit on the bench and learn from Ryan Fitzpatrick not throwing him to the wolves. I would draft three best players that I could find in the first round of the 2020 draft to include an offensive tackle maybe Andrew Thomas out of Georgia m, turn around Draft a wide receiver maybe a big-time player like Jerry Jeudy, and then go best player available for the next three pics with her on the top 70 picks.

Then I would let Josh Rosen play the entire year see how well he does with new pieces giving him a fair shot with the left tackle with some players around him to see if he can move the ball and win some games. If he can’t the Dolphins have all the ammunition in 2021 to trade up to the first pick in land Trevor Lawrence from Clemson it would be the smartest move they can do.

People are trashing the Miami Dolphins but over the next two years, while they will be in rebuild mode, they can do some big things with all those draft picks. They will have the most draft capital in two years in the first top 75 pics that I’ve ever seen. This team is on the right path so please stop hitting the panic button.

Imagine if Josh Rosen turns out? They could potentially add 11 players in the first two rounds to surround him with. Imagine him with 11 solid players around him? Add in guys like Xavien Howard, Jakeem Grant, Christian Wilkins and many others under contract already. I love Devante Parker and Preston Williams. I think they could trade a few more guys, keep an eye on Kenyan Drake now, Dolphins want draft capital!
