XFL Diamonds VOL. 6

Prospects That Can Benefit The XFL 2020 by Matt Anzio

Starvation Breeds Motivation

  • RB LeRoy Wilson
  • University West Florida
  • Height : 5’9
  • Weight: 205 lbs.

Wilson is  a Determined Prospect With A True Love Of The Game.

He is a shifty quick moving dynamic tough hard running intelligent back.

Tight frame stout with nice jab step cuts & breakaway short area quickness. Can shine in the passing game as well as in the return game or ST.

Starting his college years at little known Yuba College in Cali Wilson passed over 1800 all-purpose yds in 2 years.  Still not heavily recruited out of JUCO he went to UWF  where he helped lead his team to a National D2 Championship. Then, unfortunately, had a hand injury & didn’t get to finish the way he had envisioned.

After school knowing he had something to prove not receiving any rookie minicamp invites. He jumped at the Spring  League opportunity to get some good film. Out in Texas for a couple of weeks.

Wilson definitely got some impressive film.  When the XFL higher ups go over his film think they will be very excited about the attributes he brings to the table.  The Spring League film will be heavily observed by the XFL. Who is partners with the Spring League & will be going through July.

He possesses all the physical traits but when you talk about hunger determination. The work ethic & desire that will ultimately turn into a driven team leader. A player to help build a great stable can help in so many ways. He will take the opportunity & run, run hard.

  • DaJon Montague
  • Mars Hill University
  • Height :6’4
  • Weight : 255 lbs

Divine Intervention Or Just Supreme Wisdom  Has Helped Fuel Montagues Fire since age 12.

When he was a  child 12  on a Sunday at Church an older Lady Church goer  Summoned Montague to come over to her. When he got there She asked him” Young Man, Do you play a sport”? He said – yes then she said – Football  He said yes then she said to him” son don’t ever “give up on your dream no matter what happens”.   He promised the wise old lady he would not give up on his dreams & by speaking with him I can tell he hasn’t lost his passion either.  Something about that really has helped to motivate him in his journey.

Coming out of High School Montagues Senior yr was his best yet & he started to catch the eyes of some D1 scouts & recruiters.  He was All-Conference his final yr of HS but in order to get into D1, your GPA has to be up to par. Unable to maintain his academics ultimately lost out on a free ride with a big name school.

He was able to obtain a D3 offer from St Augustines not far from his home In North Carolina.  Although he always thought he would play for a big school he had to take what he could get & redshirted his freshman year.  In order to try & get to his dream of playing for a Div 1 team, he put his film out to tons of JUCO programs eventually getting a shot with Dean College in Boston Mass.  He did very well at Dean as he began to once again garner attention from the bigger programs.

Then some things out of Montagues control took place financially where he could not finish the final summer course he needed to make the leap to Div 1.  Without money to continue at Dean, he was forced to leave & help his family in there time of need.

Working a Job with the feeling like your dreams where so close but yet on stand still. He was beginning to lose hope. Working a 9 to 5 sending his film out hoping & praying for that opportunity. Always remembering what that kind old lady said to him Don’t give up.

Watching the draft that year he saw a player from Mars Hill get drafted Denzelle Good. Must have been a significant cause he didn’t know much of the school. When he searched it found out it was in North Carolina.  He sent his film a few days later he was signing with his new team & getting ready for his new school.  Although it was still an up & down ride he at least found a home.

After not having a pro day with very little interest from the NFL after the 2017 draft. He went to the Spring League in 2018 where he showed off his explosive nature from both end positions.

Has the reach good burst strong swim move avoids junk & keeps his eyes on the prize. The nice stance comes off low good leverage excellent size mobility with a 6 foot 4 frame to easily pack on 20-30 pounds of muscle.  See him as a 4-3 defensive end, he has all the tools & techniques to succeed in that role.

He has good film a relentless motor & passion for getting after it on the field & in the film room.  The XFL  would be getting a real football player not just a good Forty time or some other measurable They are getting heart, determination & a true love of the game.

  • WR/KR/PR/ RB Taz Lindsey
  • Charleston Southern University
  • Height : 5 ‘ 7
  • Weight : 175 lbs

Multi Faceted Super Athlete  Taz Lindsey Bring A Lot To The Table.

Feel like not one of these goes by without me featuring a player like this explosive slot return RB prospect.

Lindsey is not only exponentially fast but remarkable agile & elusive.   Runs very good routes with exceptional footwork body movement.   Another dimension of Jaw dropping eye-popping big plays that can change the game 1-2-3.   Can take a bubble screen turn it into a huge chunk of yards or take it in for the score.

All-Conference Return man in his Jr year while only playing in 7 games. In his Senior year, they used Taz a bit more. He had a good season with some big games against Prespeterian & Citadel.

Then training hard with  MTAG with former NFL player Raymond Webber for his Proday. Where he had a pretty good outing with a low 4.5 forty. After which he went to the BSN combine where he improved upon his numbers with a 4.48 Forty, 4.28 Short Shuttle, 34 ½ “ Vert & a 7.04 on the 3 Cone as well.

Has that 2nd gear in the open field once he sees daylight he is off to the races like Ricky Bobby in Talladega Nights. Need one of these types of players on every team. A game changer home run hitter in the XFL where returns will be more of a factor. Fast paced versatile dynamic RB/slot/return strs will come into play. Can change the whole momentum of the game.

Has that Tyreek hill or Cohen type of explosive playmaking capabilities. Could be a superstar in the XFL in the right system. Basically with any coach willing to use his to create mismatches all day.   Exciting player 2019 UDFA with plenty of balls still to play. Could be something special for years to come. A player that will put butts in seats & have fans tuning in to see him explode through D & special team units like the Tasmanian devil.

  • WR Chris Robb
  • Southwest   Baptist  Missouri
  • Height 6 ‘ 4
  • Weight :   221 lbs

Robb Still Has Something Left To Prove

A dominant WR at the  Southwest Baptist that made 32 starts had  1048 yds & 7 TDs. GLVC Sportsmanship Award winner &    In Robbs Freshman and Sophomore campaign he had his passion tested with the devastating loss of his Best Friend. Then he also had a broken leg on top of that within that same time frame.

He was tested but not broken in fought back as a Champion kept on moving on.  His Junior & Senior years showing he could be a real deal number one wide out at the Collegiate level.  Was a crucial part of a team that went from 1-10 to a Conference Champions in his return in his junior season.

Moving onto have a Proday at his school but ultimately became an undrafted free agent.  He has been working hard in the gym keeping himself ready, looking for a shot.

He has good size can dominate DB’s good strength to wrestle balls from DB’s with hands & arms like the Jaws of life. He can be the ultimate endzone weapon with the right OC can score double digit TD’s in a year. If given the opportunity to think he could be something special to watch in the XFL.

True number 1 wideouts with the size experience & quickness aren’t as available as slot guys that is for sure. If you look at both X & Y positions can see Robb having success while I think he could give safeties fits in the slot.   With the toughness to fight for the ball or the extra yard.  Big strong stature with long reaches strong hands.

Can be something special for a new league like so many of the guys I feature the word “ quit “is not in Robbs Vocabulary.

Looking for a big outside presence for any XFL team could be a big-time scorer like a point guard.  Every team in the League will need a wide out or 2  with his physical & athletic talents. Robb is a player they should definitely review closely.

  • DL /LB   Ray Doh
  • McDaniel College
  • Height : 6 ‘1
  • Weight  240 lbs

Nothing Has Come Easy  For Doh But That Never Stopped Him Before.

Coming up in a single parent home raised by his Mother things were never easy. Doh found solace on the gridiron in High School.

After HS he went the JUCO route with Lackawanna in Northeast P.A.  Shortly after transferring to McDaniel. Where he started 40 games helping improve a lackluster D his numbers still improved every year. The D improved with Doh on the team as well & he went on to have a great career at the school.  Was a true team player & shows a great knowledge of the game. Earning an invite to The Miami Podyum All-Star Game. Which I heard nothing but good things coming from scouts/personnel that were at the game.

Low center of gravity powerful punch that is a short area beast with power & legit burst off the edge. Can anchor down hold his ground against the run  & has played inside as well.

Has a great frame to build on with an eagerness to play & learn was an integral part of a D& a team on the rise in McDaniel College.  Can be hard to get a look coming out but they have a couple of guys that could really benefit a club.  Doh is one & RB Isaac Murray on the other side of the ball.

Just needs one shot to show what he has to offer. Versatile player that can stand up move very well or add the necessary weight to be a DL prospect.

Honestly believe sometimes guys just need a chance to show what he has & Doh is hungry for his chance. Known him since before the draft & can tell you his belief in his abilities have only grown stronger.  A humble young man with an eagerness to help a team success a very none selfish class act.

When it comes to attacking the football Doh is Money.

  • DB Trey Merritt
  • Northwestern Oklahoma State University
  • Height : 6 ‘1
  • Weight: 200 lbs

The Road Less Traveled Still Can Still Lead To The Destination.

Originally starting his career with Washburn University as a Freshman. He transferred to Northwestern Oklahoma his Junior year & made an immediate impact for the Ranger defense playing all 11 games.  Had 31 tackles, 3 TFL, 2 INT & 6 PBU in his first year with his new squad. Following that up in 2018 as a Senior with 53 tackles, .5 TFL, 2 FF, 2 FR & 6 PBU  in 9 games.

A team Captains an All-Conference Honorable mention with a Pro Day that included a 4.5  Forty & a 4.1 Short Shuttle. You are getting a speedy enforcer with the ability to cover as well as laying bone-jarring hits. Making even the bigger targets fear to go across his path or in his range of motion.  Timing the ability to play a man with tight coverage outstanding timing ball reaction.

After school, he played Arena with the Oklahoma Flying Ace’s despite only appearing in 5 games. Had a good showing with 20 tackle, a FF, FR & 9 PBU’s.

DB is a deep position the XFL is going to have a real tough task on their hands when the 8 teams have to decide which DB’s make the cut. Think guys with experience but still relatively young will be of great importance in the final decisions.

Want guys that will keep fighting not to give up & most of all when it comes to DB it is all about confidence. Merritt is humble but he is very confident in what he can do in the field & it shows. The type of DB that can be moved inside & out like a blue chip piece.

There are some outstanding DB’s from the 2019-18 & even further back than that. Playing Arena or had stints with NFL or CFL clubs. Putting together the combined list is not an easy task. Still, the final evaluation will come down to film determination & attitude. All characteristics of Merritt can bring to an XFL organization.
