NFLPA Executive Director sends email telling agents to prepare for a work stoppage for at least a year
Could the NFL shut down?
Per Liz Mullen of SportsBusiness Journal, the NFLPA Executive Director DeMaurice Smith sent an email to every NFL agent saying that the union is “advising players to plan fro a work stoppage of at least a year in length” when the collective bargaining agreement ends after the 2020 NFL season.
A lockout is almost a guarantee at this point in the NFL before the 2021 season. The NFLPA would like the CBA to include an increased share of league revenue from the current 47 percent rate, they want more guaranteed money in their contracts, and they want to decrease free agent limitations (Franchise Tag, Five Year Options for rookies).
This could get ugly folks, especially if the NFL owners play hardball.
