Grading the Draft: AFC East stack up their DL to get after Tom Brady

AFC East teams all have the same thing on their mind. How do we stop Tom Brady. The Old Man continues to dominate the division and the Patriots had the best draft out of all four teams.

The NFL Draft is now over and I wanted to go over each division to grade the draft and talk about the best pick and the biggest reach for each team. I know this is very early to talk about who was the best and worst pick of their draft, but let’s face it, it is what we do for a living!!

New England Patriots – Patriots continue to shine, they continue to find a way to draft the best players on the board to stack their roster. With Tom Brady getting older the Patriots added a new weapon in N’Keal Harry. They followed that up with JoeJuan Williams a stud cornerback to tag team with Stephon Gilmore. Both corners are very similar. They also add a few other studs including QB Jarrett Stidham later. The biggest steal was Alabama RB Damien Harris and their biggest reach to me was Stanford punt Jacob Bailey. Overall the Patriots get A- from me.

Buffalo Bills – Bills landed Ed Oliver with their ninth pick and that was a huge steal. Oliver has the abilities to be the best pass rusher in the NFL Draft. They followed that up by adding Cody Ford from Oklahoma. Their main goal is to give Josh Allen weapons and that is what they did. They added a few defensive players as well, and Devin Singletary in the 3rd round as well as Ole Miss TE Dawson Knox. Overall the Bills did well. Their best pick was easily Ed Oliver by staying put at nine, and their biggest reach was Jaquan Johnson from Miami. While I love him as a player they have Jordan Poyer and Micah Hyde. Add in the fact they drafted Siran Neal last season and I see both players fighting for a spot. They are the exact same player. Bills land a B+ from me.

New York Jets – Jets had a great draft. They started it off with Quinnen Williams then waited until the third round and still picked up a guy I had graded with a first-round grade. I loved the Jachai Polite pick up for the Jets. They drafted one of my favorite players late in the draft in Blessuan Austin. Austin would have been a first-round pick if he did not get hurt. It was really hard for me to pick a bad pick but Trevon Wesco has to be the pick, in the 4th round. He is a good player, I am just not sure he was a 4th rounder. The Jets land a B+ from me.

Miami Dolphins – The Dolphins landed a pass rusher too and stacked up against their pass rush to get after Tom Brady. They landed Christian Wilkins in the first and joined the other two teams in the AFC East to get after Brady. They followed up their pick with a solid offensive lineman. If they want to win they better find some line help. The Dolphins overall had a good draft, but they drafted two running backs. The Dolphins drafted Chandler Cox from Auburn first who is the one pick I do not get, then the next pick they selected Myles Gaskin. Gaskin to me is a stud and one of the better picks in this draft. He should have gone earlier. Overall I give the Dolphins a B.
