Could the Dolphins be stuck with Ryan Tannehill for another year?

Ryan Tannehill is a solid player but the Dolphins need to move on. The problem is can they? They may have buried their chances of finding a viable starter for the 2019 season.

Right now the only quarterbacks on the Miami Dolphins roster are Luke Falk, Jake Rudock and Ryan Tannehill. Many felt that the Dolphins would move on from Tannehill this off-season but the Dolphins have not had the best luck. So far the Phins lost multiple offensive lineman and now the Dolphins missed out on Teddy Bridgewater.

There are not many great options out there right now at the quarterback position. Everyone believed that the Dolphins would sign Tyrod Taylor, but he signed early in free agency with the Chargers. There are not many options right now, and the Dolphins do in fact have Tannehill on the roster. The Dolphins pick 13th overall in the 2019 NFL Draft, and that may not be early enough to get one of the top 2 quarterbacks in the draft.

With the rumors swirling that the Cardinals may select Kyler Murray with the first overall pick, that leaves Dwayne Haskins and Drew Lock as the next two best prospects. Many believe that the Giants like Daniel Jones, but if they do in fact like him I doubt they will take him with the 6th pick in the draft, when they now hold the Browns first round pick at 17. If that is the case then Haskins or Lock could in fact fall to the Dolphins. The Redskins could be looking for a quarterback as well though, even though they pick at 15 they are a team to keep an eye on to jump the Phins.

If the Phins do not want to start a rookie quarterback from day one they may decide to keep Tannehill and let him play another season. To cut him the Dolphins will have $13,423,334 in dead-cap before June 1st if they cut him post-June 1st though they would save $18,750,000.

The Dolphins have a decision to make at the quarterback position.

Last season, Tannehill threw for 17 touchdowns and 9 interceptions and 1,979 passing yards, and honestly is not that bad of a quarterback. The Phins have some solid players on their offense but they need a quarterback of the future now. The Dolphins are running out of options, but here are three ideas on how to fix the Dolphins problem.

Option 1: Sign Ryan Fitzpatrick to a one year deal, and draft a quarterback like Drew Lock. Then trade Ryan Tannehill for anything you can get for him and save the money. This is my option 1. I think this is the smart option because they will save money.

Option 2: Keep Ryan Tannehill and draft Drew Lock or any other young quarterback in 2019. Let Tannehill play for the first couple weeks and keep an eye on injuries around the league. If a team becomes in need of a quarterback put Tannehill on the trade block because the trade value could increase.

Option 3: Trade 13th pick to the Arizona Cardinals for Josh Rosen, and cut Ryan Tannehill.

What do you think the Dolphins will do?
