Diamond Report

In The Pass Game:

Fernandez has some of the best sideline presence of any small schooler & right up there with some of the best overall. The ideal position would be in the slot or Y as a Pro. He can make the contested grabs in the passing game.  Insane sideline ball & foot awareness use the sideline to his advantage making the quick slant grabs to stop the clock or box out defenders.  Not afraid to go up or across the middle. Tough, after the catch bounces off tacklers. Slants, flag & crossing routes is an area of strength for Ryan. Good change of direction & short area burst which is an attribute needed to play slot at any pro level. Fernandez has the ability to come back off routes known to catch underthrown passes make tough grabs with his strong hands. Seems to excel on the right side of the field makes plays on the left but he is better on the right or across the middle. Tracks the ball well with timing physicality to win 50/50 battles. Very good understanding of routes breaks off routes with good speed urgency makes tough grabs on bad throws. Runs every route in the route tree seamlessly.

Special Teams & Blocking

A special team standout out on kickoffs explodes covering kick returns always one of the first down the field. Ability to find the ball carrier on returns uses his explosiveness to make tackles. He knows how to utilize the sideline on ST too, Boxing returners out tackling or running them out of bounds. Returning kicks he can navigate his way through traffic maintaining speed as he zigs n zags through gaps. As a Special teamer he is used to run block & tackle shows real toughness for smaller WR. Shows he can be a consistent blocker on ST but also in pass protection. He has experience returning kicks, blocking on returns & covering kicks making ST tackles. Truely a well rounded tough Slot/ ST gem  to watch.

Summary:

Fernandez didn’t come from a winning program, didn’t have the best QB play or a bunch of big-name teammates.  These type of guys can be hard to evaluate as we circle back to the age old question of “ Level of Competition”? Sure it would have been nice to see him at the National bowl, HBCU Spirit of America  Bowl or the Podyum ALL Star Bowl to see if he can look good against top competition. Do believe the tape I see with my own eyes & believe he is a tough slot/ST prospect that can make tough grabs. The ideal fit is a West Coast or RPO style O. Could be a Camp body yr 1 or make a squad based on his ST prowess or make a practice squad. Almost every team carries a smaller quick slot that can go across the face of the D, as well as be vital in a 2 minute O. Will be updating this report & all my reports with Pro Day & or combine numbers. As Ryan prepares for the BSN combine I will update my database before the 2019 NFL Draft. A sports management major Fernandez has a passion for the game of football. Combine his love of the game with his football IQ & work ethic you have a dependable slot & teammate. The way he uses the sideline reminds me a lot of Saints Rookie & ex- UCF  wide out TreQuan Smith. While his toughness, size & versatility reminds me a bit of Julian Edelman.
