Falcons owner is not willing to blame his Head Coach just yet

The Atlanta Falcons have been cursed since losing their 28-3 lead to the Patriots. They have not been the same team.  Their defense looks suspect, and their offensive play calling is horrible.  Well last night Falcons owner Arthur Blank who recently handed Dan Quinn and GM Thomas Dimitroff a three year extension defended his coach.  He claims the coach is not the problem.

“Absolutely. We love our coach,” Blank told ESPN’s Vaughn McClure on Thursday night. “Our coach is not the problem.”

The owner pointed to injuries as part of the problem. They have lost some key players in Devonta Freeman, Keanu Neal and Deion Jones but that sounds like an excuse. Blank says it is not an excuse though.

“It’s a reason, but it’s not an excuse,” Blank said of the injuries. “That’s what the coach would tell you. That’s what the players would tell you. There have been some crippling injuries, but other guys have stepped up and played the best they can. Some cases, that’s good enough. In some cases, not quite.”

The Falcons defense is still horrible right now. Entering last night’s game they were the 32nd ranted defense in DVOA by Football Outsiders, and I doubt their performance last night helped them any.  When is it going to be Dan Quinn’s problem?  He is a defensive minded coach right?

Shoot even Quinn supported his lack luster offensive coaches.  Did you know Steve Sarkisian has only averaged 17.3 points per game in the past three games?  How do you do that with Julio Jones, Calvin Ridley, Tevin Coleman, Matt Ryan, and Mohamed Sanu? I am sorry someone has to take some blame, we cannot just say it is injuries.
