NFL Draft Diamonds Scouting Report: Deshon Elliott, DB, Texas

Name: Deshon Elliott School: Texas Position: Safety
Games Watched: USC, West Virginia, Oklahoma, Texas Tech, Baylor
Physical Grade/Body Composition:
Physical Grade I would have to give Elliott a 8.5/10. He’s big at 6’2 210 pound safety but with a solid blend of coming into the box and stopping the run, And in coverage delivering a big hit. His body composition reminds me a lot like Eric Berry.
Coverage Analysis:
Elliott will be your over the top free safety or Hybrid safety. (Due to Texas having him playing all over the field which shows his ability to be a complete great player) Rangy, Ball hawk, Playmaker in coverage. Elliott has amazing ball skills with 9 total interception. 6 just this year, He did drop one against Texas Tech. He does a very good job of stepping in front the wide reciever. He could’ve very well had 7 even 8 interceptions.
Tackiling/Hit Power Analysis:
Elliot does have little bit of a problem tackling in the open field from time to time. (But it doesn’t happen often) Elliot does tackle very well, I’ve notice he goes low and wrap up against the ball carrier or wide out. In the box he does a very good job at locating where the ball carrier is and being able to attack and tackle. Elliot doesn’t have a problem lowering his pad level and hitting any player. In 2016 game vs. Notre Dame Elliott Knocked out wide reciever Torii Hunter.
Scheme Fit:
I can see Elliott playing in several schemes. He can be your over the top safety to your in the box safety or your hybrid safety that just plays all over the field.
Career Overview and Summary:
Over the length of Elliotts career, He finally became the starter in his Junior season. He has 105 total tackles with 63 of them coming in his Junior season. 11.5 Tackles for loss, 2.5 sacks, 9 interceptions with 2 touchdowns. And 3 force fumbles. In 2017 Elliot had 357 run snaps, 30 tackles, 9 assisted tackles, 2 missed tackles and 12 stops. Had a 20.5 percent tackling percentage. In the passing game Elliott had 458 passing snaps, 3 missed tackles. With a tackling efficiency of 11.0.
Projected Round: I project Deshon to be picked no later than a late 2nd. But I can easily see a 2nd round pick unless he has a very good combine then I can see him being picked late in the 1st.
