Jay Gruden expects Matt Jones at OTA’s; He says he is still on the team
Matt Jones the former third round pick of the Redskins is saying he is no longer in the plans of the Redskins, so he is skipping OTA’s in Florida working out in the Sunshine State. Well his coach wants him at the Redskins facility, because he says he is still part of the team. Gruden was asked on Wednesday if he expected Jones to return to the team and this is what he said.
“I hope so,” Gruden said in comments distributed by the team. “I expect him to be. He’s on our roster, he’s eating up a spot. We all know that this is voluntary, so there’s really nothing that we can do. We’d like everybody to be here without a doubt, but at the end of the day, Jordan Reed is in Miami working out, Trent [Williams] is working out in Oklahoma, Matt Jones chose not to be here, so we obviously want people to work together and learn together, but it is voluntary at the end of the day.”
I think Matt Jones would be a great running back for the 49ers, so who knows what will happen. Maybe a trade?
Update:
Redskins have informed RB Matt Jones that he’s their No. 5 running back, which is why he has elected to skip OTAs, according to Mike Silver. WOW
