Doug Marrone says Leonard Fournette has to earn the starting job
Just because Leonard Fournette was taken fourth overall, it does not mean he is the starter week one. That is according to his coach.
Jaguars coach Doug Marrone made it clear that Fournette, the No. 4 overall pick in April’s NFL Draft, will be tasked with earning the lead back role.
“Obviously when we made the pick we were thinking about [how] he can be someone like that,” Marrone said Saturday, via ESPN’s Michael DiRocco. “Obviously he’s shown that ability, but at the same sense, when you have the team, the one thing about a team is you have to earn that. So he’s going to have to go and show that he has to do that.”
This should not be a big issue, because Fournette is five times the running back they have on their roster at this point.
