The National Football League is more competitive and I am happy because an extra point is no longer automatic. Today, a new record was broke when 11 extra points were missed, and there are still several games left.
The most missed extra points in a single week since 1970 was 10, which had been done seven times and last happened in Week 2 of 1985.
Last year, the NFL sought to make the extra point a more meaningful play when it pushed the spot of the ball to the 15-yard line. What used to be a 17-yard gimme is now a 32-yard attempt. As a result, we’re seeing more misses than ever.
