HBCU Spirit of America Bowl: Celebrating HBCU Player’s College Careers and Giving them NFL Opportunities

Last year, the 2016 Dream Bowl was a tremendous success, with the game broadcasted on national TV, and producing 14 NFL camp players. One of those standouts, who went from Grambling State walk-on to Colts offensive rookie standout this year, made this most of his senior year off-season to get to the NFL , and the Dream Bowl was part of his journey.

The Dream Bowl returns this year in Virginia Beach, VA, and the roster is beginning to be finalized, though we’re are still accepting player recommendations. But between Chester Rogers’ story, the media growth and NFL support of the Dream Bowl, and the unfulfilled avenue for HBCU seniors to get their professional chance and career celebrated, we’re excited to bring back an HBCU all-star game to honor the athletes and to also celebrate the music, culture and tradition of the HBCU community.

The HBCU Spirit of America Bowl, to be held on January 15, 2017 in Virginia Beach, VA, is a celebration of players’ skills, dedication, and commitment to the game of football and an opportunity to thank all those that were instrumental in their success. The HBCU Spirit of America Bowl is more than just another college all-star game.

We believe that one-day or one game is not enough to celebrate player successes and achievements. Therefore, we have created a myriad of football and family specific events, honors, and activities during Martin Luther King, Jr. Weekend, culminating in the Game on January 15th. Each player who attends gets:

  1. Participation in the January 11th combine which is run by NFL & CFL scouts;

  2. Professional Scouting reports prepared personally for each player by Optimum Scouting;

  3. Player admission to the HBCU Spirit of America Bowl awards banquet;

  4. Official personalized HBCU Spirit of America Bowl game jersey, hoodie; merchandise;
  5. Four full practices in front of NFL/CFL teams for evaluation and in preparation for game;
  6. Four-night hotel accommodations and meals at the Ramada Inn Beachfront;

  7. Enjoyment of Virginia Beach area attractions and restaurants; and
  8. Nationally broadcasted game on January 15th, 2017

Our roster is beginning to take shape, but we’re looking for HBCU college players who are excited to compete, celebrate their career on National TV, and get their opportunity to play in front of NFL teams. Our player and NFL team confirmations will be coming in the coming days and weeks, but the interest has been awesome and we can’t wait to share when the time is right.

If a player wishes to be considered for the HBCU Spirit of America Bowl, they must contact us for the next steps in registration. Information about cost for players can be found via email and on the website, and we’re happy to elaborate more on this.

The HBCU Spirit of America Bowl has been created to celebrate HBCU college players’ lifelong football journey. Our organization would be honored to have these players participate, and we are certain your experience in Virginia Beach will be filled with memories to last a lifetime. Any questions or player recommendations may be directed to Eric Galko at EricG@OptimumScouting.com.
