2017 NFL Draft Diamonds Scouting Report: Phazahn Odom, TE, Fordham

Phazahn Odom, TE, Fordham (#15)

  • Height: 6’8”
  • Weight: 250 lbs.
  • Class: Senior (RS)
  • 2015 Stats: 37 Receptions, 492 Yards, 7 Touchdowns
  • 2016 FCS Preseason 3rd Team All-American

Strengths:

1) Great size

2) Good hands

3) Can line up on the offensive line & out wide

Weaknesses:

1) Pad level is too high while blocking

2) Run blocks with little to no drive

3) Not the best route runner

Phazahn Odom is a matchup nightmare as a tight end. At 6’8” 250 lbs., he has great size and good hands that any NFL offensive coordinator would love. Odom is a versatile weapon that can line up on the offensive line, or out wide as a receiver.

Odom will need to play with a lower pad level, especially when run blocking as he tends to block defenders with little to no drive. He will also need to work on his route running as well, despite being hard to defend one on one in the passing game.

In his first year as a starter in 2015, Odom ranked in the top 5 in receiving yards and touchdowns for all FCS tight ends with 37 receptions, 492 yards, and 7 touchdowns. If he can be more productive while improving his route running & run blocking, he could hear his name called on draft day. Odom is a player that could be developed into a nice weapon. Right now, I have a late round to undrafted grade on him.
