2016 NFL Draft Breakdown; The worst pick of each round

Christian Hackenberg of Penn State is rising up draft boards
Christian Hackenberg was super overdrafted by the Jets in my opinion, 2016 NFL Draft

We just broke down the best pick of each round and now we are going to give you the worst pick of each round. They are not a bad pick as far as the player, but more the reach of the pick.  I would never say a player cannot play in the NFL, because I believe they can play and succeed, but rather the team drafting a player high who I think would still have been there in a later round.

1st Round – New York Giants drafted Eli Apple with the tenth pick in the NFL Draft, and while I think he will be a good player, they could have likely traded down and still landed him. The Buccaneers always wanted Vernon Hargreaves which means after him being selected the next CB taken was the 24th pick. The Giants could have traded out of the spot and landed another couple picks, then taken Apple. I think Apple will be good, but it was definitely a reach.  The 2016 NFL Draft had tons of talent players selected, and while I think he is talented, I just think they overdrafted him.

2nd Round – Jets drafted quarterback Christian Hackenberg of Penn State and they overdrafted him. The Jets did need a quarterback but they should have just paid Ryan Fitzpatrick. I do not get the selection because they already have Geno Smith and Bryce Petty on their roster.  Three young quarterback’s who could all be capable of starting, but right now it will be a long shot for them to get the production that Fitzmagic was capable of.

3rd Round – The Dolphins drafted Kenyan Drake with their 3rd round pick and I do not get it.  I think it was one of the biggest reaches in the entire draft. He is a very special player, but I am pretty sure he was not the third best running back in this draft. He was the 3rd selected however, so that was a bit shocking.

4th Round – Browns drafted Princeton Tight End Seth DeValve and that was a huge reach. I did not have him as a fourth round pick. I was shocked they took him so high. He is a good pass catcher but this was very early to select him. The Browns had several good picks in the 2016 NFL Draft, but also had a couple questionable ones.

5th Round – Browns drafted Trey Caldwell in the 5th round with a compensatory pick. Caldwell played for Louisiana Monroe, and while he may be a great player, they Browns have like 10 cornerbacks on their roster.  I am not sure why they didn’t draft a different position here.

6th Round – Detroit Lions drafted a longsnapper.  Jimmy Landes from Baylor is a good long snapper, but I was shocked the Lions drafted him in the 6th.  The Lions have a veteran in Don Muhlbach but he will likely be gone after this draft pick.

7th Round – This was hard, because I think all the teams were able to land a decent pick. I will not say a team overdrafted in the seventh round because most of the players taken deserved to be taken at least in the 7th round.
