Every couple weeks we find a football player overseas that really has what it takes to dominate here in the United States. That kid we have discovered this week is Gal Mesika.  Gal is a 5’11, 190 pound kicker from Israel.  He was a soccer star in his country before making the transition to American Football.  He is in the United States right now and we were able to speak to him and get an interview with him. I am pretty sure, he will be getting attention from NFL teams soon.

Check out our interview with him below:

What is your name?

Gal Mesika

What is your height/weight?

5.11”, 190 lbs.

What is your position?

PK

Did you play college football?

No

Where are you from?

Israel

How long have you been playing American Football?

I started kicking two years ago

How old are you?

27

Who is your role model?

Sebastian Janikowski.

Did you play any other sports?

I was a professional soccer player, in the goalkeeper position. I was on the Israeli national team.

If you could compare your play to one player in the NFL who would it be and why?

Janikowski. He is a lefty like myself and also came from soccer.

What is the biggest obstacle in your life your life you had to overcome, and how did you overcome it?

My older brother, Ran, was murdered 13 years ago during a trip in the US, at the age of 23. This was obviously a huge shock and hardship for my family and myself. We dedicated our live at that time to solving the mystery of his death and finding the murderer. When this was achieved, it did not take away the grief, but did relieve us from a very stressful and uncertain period of our lives.

What is your biggest strength?

My relentless and tenacity, and accuracy of my kick.

What is your biggest weakness?

I would have to say that sometimes I am too much of a perfectionist for my own good. It’s not at the level of an obsession, but I sometimes need to give myself a break…

If you could have dinner with three people dead or alive, who would you choose?

First I would meet my brother Ran. I would really give anything for a chance to see him once more.

I would also love to sit with Payton Manning. He is a true legend to me and an inspiration.

The third one would have to be David Ben Gurion, the first prime minister of Israel. He is the proof for me that nothing is impossible and that tenacity and hard work will get you anywhere.

What will be the first big item you buy once you are in the NFL?

I guess I will save up for buying a house. Knowing that you have a home that you can go back to at the end of the day gives a lot of peace of mind and a stability you need as an athlete.

Lately many players from other countries are getting a shot in the NFL, if you re signed you will be the first player ever from Israel to make it to the NFL, what would that mean to you?

My dream is to put the Israeli flag on that NFL helmet. I deeply love my country, and want to make it proud, and at the same time get exposure for the NFL and my team outside the US.
