How the Jaguars could turn into playoff contenders in one year

Myles Jack could make the Jaguars a special defense

The Jacksonville Jaguars have over 83 million dollars in cap space, and while they do not need to spend it all this year, they could easily become a very tough team to beat if they made just a few moves.  I am going to turn the Jaguars into a playoff contender by utilizing the free agents available and the draft.  Here is what I would like to see the Jacksonville Jaguars do.

The Jaguars have 5 picks in the top 150 picks in the NFL draft, which means they can land 5 starters if they hit the nail on the head.

NFL Draft

  • 5th – Myles Jack, OLB, UCLA
  • 38th – William Jackson, CB, Houston
  • 69th – Shawn Oakman, DE, Baylor
  • 104th – Javon Hargrave, DT,  South Carolina State
  • 146th – Spencer Drango, OG, Baylor

Free Agency:

  • Sign Alex Mack the center from the Cleveland Browns
  • Sign Russell Okung the offensive tackle from the Seattle Seahawks
  • Sign Tamba Hali the defensive end from the Chiefs
  • Sign Janorris Jenkins the cornerback from the Rams
  • Sign safety Tony Jefferson to an offer sheet from the Arizona Cardinals

QB – Blake Bortles

RB – T.J. Yeldon

WR – Allen Robinson, Maurice Lee, Allen Hurns and Rashad Greene

TE – Julius Thomas

OT – Luke Joeckel, Russell Okung (Seahawks)

OG – A.J. Cann, Luke Bowanko, Spencer Drango (146th pick)

OC – Alex Mack (Browns)

DE – Tamba Hali (Chiefs), Ryan Davis, Dante Fowler, Shawn Oakman (69th pick)

DT – Tyson Alualu, Roy Miller, Sen’Derrick Marks, Javon Hargrave (104th pick)

OLB – Telvin Smith, Myles Jack (5th pick)

MLB – Paul Poz

CB – William Jackson (38th pick), Janorris Jenkins (Rams)

S – Tony Jefferson (Signed from Cardinals), Jonathan Cyprien

This is my game plan, I think on paper they would be upgraded at their major positions and they could easily do it with the cap space they have.  They could front load the contracts so they can sign their future guys like Blake Bortles down the road. I think the Jaguars would make the playoffs with this roster.
