Chargers are likely to keep Antonio Gates; Agent will meet with Chargers at Combine
San Diego Chargers have one of the best tight ends on their roster to ever suit up, and they do not want him to leave and retire with another team. Antonio Gates has has played his entire 13 year NFL career with the Chargers and according to San Diego Union Tribune, the Chargers will meet with Gates’ agent Tom Condon at the Scouting Combine in Indianapolis this week.
A new deal, or the framework of a new contract, could be worked out by then.
Injuries limited Gates to just 11 games last season, but he remained the team’s most productive tight end. He finished with 56 catches for 630 yards and five touchdowns. He has 104 touchdowns, just one of a cadre of franchise receiving records.
The Chargers will probably land Gates for a cheap deal, and they would be dumb not to hook him up.
