San Francisco 49ers could hire Hue Jackson as early as today if he interviews well

Hue Jackson should be the Bengals head coach moving forward

Hue Jackson could be the 49ers new head coach as early as today

According to Ian Rapoport of NFL.com, the San Francisco 49ers could have their head coach as early as today. Jackson has an interview scheduled with 49ers general manager Trent Baalke Sunday, and RapSheet says that Jackson is the “clear front-runner” pending that interview.

Complicating matters for the 49ers, however, Jackson also plans to talk Sunday with the Browns about their coaching vacancy as well.

Discussed #49ers coaching search on @NFLGameDay: Hue Jackson interviews with 49ers brass. If all goes well, he could end today as SF’s coach
The 50-year-old Jackson is certainly no stranger to Bay Area football fans. He actually interviewed with the 49ers for their head coaching job in early 2011 before the team hired Jim Harbaugh. Jackson then took over the Raiders’ top post that season, going 8-8 before being fired. The Bengals averaged 26.2 points a game this year on offense.
