2016 NFL Scouting Notes: Jonathan Jones, CB, Auburn

2016 NFL Scouting Notes: Jonathan Jones, CB, Auburn

By Lijah Spencer (@tweaked74)

Continuing with the Cornerback position we take a look Jonathan Jones from Auburn. Jones had 6 INT’s last season along with 17 pass breakups, but has not played at all in spring practices due to a minor foot surgery. Here are my notes:

Jonathan Jones. 5’10. 181 lbs. Auburn

The Positives

1) Is good in both press and off coverages

2) Has good speed

3) Very good hands, leading the team in INT’s

4) Plays with good effort

The Negatives

1) Sometimes draws penalties with the physical use of his hands in coverage downfield.

2) An average tackler

Jonathan Jones is a CB who is good in both press and off coverages, man or zone. He has the speed to stay with most WR’s, and the intelligence to match the routes more often than not, though he does use his hands too much and occasionally draws penalties because of this. He plays with good effort, always trying to get to the play even if it’s on opposite side of field of him. Jones has average NFL size at 5’10 181 lbs, and is a decent but not great tackler. He does have very good hands with a high aptitude for making the interception. Jones has missed all of spring practices this year due to having what is being called minor foot surgery, but is expected to fully recover and be ready to go by the time the season begins.
