Saints sign punter Brandon Fields; Release S Kenny Phillips
The New Orleans Saints are signing punter Brandon Fields, according to his agent Ian Greengross. Mike Garafolo of FOX Sports reports that the Saints are releasing veteran S Kenny Phillips on Tuesday. This is likely to make room for P Brandon Fields.
Fields, who was brought in for a tryout on Tuesday, will replace Thomas Morstead, who strained his quad on a kickoff during Sunday’s game against the Cowboys, according to Saints coach Sean Payton.
Fields was a 2007 seventh round selection for the Dolphins and spent eight seasons with them before being released during training camp this summer. He was a 2013 Pro Bowl selection and a 2013 second-team All-Pro, averaging 50.2 yards-per-kick in 2012.
