Should the Buffalo Bills release Matt Cassel or give up on EJ Manuel?

Matt Cassel is expected to start in the first preseason game for Buffalo
Matt Cassel went from being the projected starter to being the guy that could be cut….

The Buffalo Bills are in a tough situation, because right now they have three quarterbacks that have all played very well.  Matt Cassel was a player the team traded for last year, but the former Patriots quarterback has been outplayed outright by Tyrod Taylor who was signed by the Bills as a free agent.  Taylor has looked extremely crisp, and deserved to be the starting quarterback. On the other hand, former first round pick EJ Manuel has looked amazing as well.

Manuel has been leading touchdown drives left and right, while Cassel has not.  Manuel has the ability to get out of the pocket, while Cassel does not.  Cassel on the other hand has the ability to read a defense and make veteran decisions.  The Bills have been without a true quarterback for a very long time, but is Matt Cassel really the long term answer?

I feel Matt Cassel is a stop-gap quarterback until they figure out what to do with the position long term, while Tyrod Taylor has looked promising. I think the Bills need to roll with Tyrod and EJ and place Matt Simms on the practice squad.  EJ Manuel is a good young quarterback who has proven that he can win football games in the NFL.  While he has also made some bone headed decisions, the Bills will not be relying so much on the quarterback this year, they will be looking more at running the ball and stopping the opposing offenses.

Also you need to take the salary cap situation into play.  If the Bills cut Matt Cassel they will save 4,750,000 dollars, while if the team cuts EJ Manuel they will have over 2,500,000 dollars in dead cap space.

Sal Capaccio of WGR550 reports that the Bills are having internal debate about whether or not to release veteran QB Matt Cassel.

Last night, Ian Rapoport mentioned that the Bills may end up keeping Matt Simms on their practice squad, which would leave Cassel and former first-round pick EJ Manuel competing for one job.

According to Rapoport, there are some in the Bills’ organization that aren’t willing to give up on Manuel just yet.

While it sounds like an easy decision, it could be a horrible situation if Tyrod is injured or does not perform the way you were hoping. So I want to know, what would you do Bills fans?
