Browns have signed QB Austin Davis; Place CB Charles Gaines on short term IR
Today the Cleveland Browns signed former St. Louis Rams quarterback Austin Davis. To make room for Davis on the roster, the Browns put rookie cornerback Charles Gaines (hamstring) on short-term injured reserve. He’ll be eligible to practice in week 6 and play in week 8.
Davis, 26, was cut by the Rams on Saturday. He was on his way to Cleveland Sunday night to take his physical and sign with the team.
Originally signed by the Rams as undrafted rookie out of Southern Mississippi in 2012, Davis started eight games for St. Louis last season after starter Sam Bradford and Shaun Hill were both injured.
Davis went 3-5 in his eight starts before Hill replaced him again. He threw 12 touchdowns and nine interceptions en route to an 85.1 rating.
