The Houston Texans need a running back ever since Arian Foster went down with a groin injury. The team was hoping to sign former New Orleans Saints running back Pierre Thomas, but that did not come to a reality. Thomas arrived in Houston for a work-out and killed it. He even received a contract offer from the Texans, but according to John McClain of the Houston Chronicle, Thomas turned it down.
Not after contract negotiations broke down with Thomas, a veteran former New Orleans Saints starter, when sources with knowledge of the situation not authorized to speak publicly said that he declined a veteran minimum offer of $870,000 with discussions possibly being revisited later.
For a guy that is jobless and has an opportunity to start for the Texans, was this the right move? I am not sure, because the Texans have a glaring need at the running back position.
