D2 football team practiced inside a Medium Security Prison today
Today the University of Findlay football team entered the medium security prison of Marion Correctional Institute and practiced in front of the inmates.
“University of Findlay teamed up with MCI because we think it has a great opportunity to enhance both entities,” said head coach Rob Keys. “Practicing at MCI will allow our players to train and compete in a different environment. It will also elevate the lives of the inmates, giving them the opportunity to watch and experience live football.”
Marion Correctional Institution fed the players and coaching staff in their gymnasium after a former professional athlete and inmate addressed the team on the importance of making sound decisions. The team then toured the facility before departing back to Findlay.
“We believe this trip will help educate our players on the value of making good decisions. I think a lot of our young athletes take what they have for granted. The decision-making skills they learn at college will help define them later in life.”
