Dallas Cowboys defensive lineman Jeremy Mincey held a camp for youth in Shreveport, Louisiana, and what he talked about with the 300 youth was important.
Many people forget the struggles some NFL players go through to get to where they are today. Cowboys defensive lineman Jeremy Mincey talked about growing up poor as a youngster in Statesboro, Georgia, and what he said hit at home for some.
“I grew up like a lot of you children out here. I remember being very poor,” Mincey said, according to the Shreveport Times. “I started at the bottom. You know what the bottom is? You ever have roaches in your cereal bowl?”
Many kids will not have to experience the struggle of having grown up in a poor situation. I am thankful I never had cockroaches in my cereal bowl, but the struggle I’m sure hit home for these kids.
