2016 NFL Draft Scouting Notes: Myles Jack, LB, UCLA

2016 NFL Draft Scouting Notes: Myles Jack, LB, UCLA

By Lijah Spencer (@tweaked74)

Tonight in scouting notes we take a break from the offensive side of the ball as we move to the Linebacker group. There are obviously many talented players out there, and tonight we take a look at Myles Jack from UCLA. As always, these notes are based off from last year’s film and will precede the full scouting report which will come after I am able to view film from the upcoming season, and will be featured here on nfldraftdiamonds. Here are my notes:

Myles Jack. LB. 6’1 232 lbs. UCLA

The Positives

1) Jack is a solid tackler

2) He can and often does play in coverage, at times covering a Wide Receiver

3) Plays with good power, pushing through larger players

4) Jack has good speed

The Negatives

1) Jack is a bit undersized for an NFL linebacker

2) He is not a pass rushing LB, but more of a coverage LB

Myles Jack is a very athletic Linebacker who started his college career playing Running Back, but soon moved to the defensive side of the ball where he flourished. He plays with good balance and power, and is a solid tackler. He has good enough speed to at times cover wide receivers, and has good enough hands to be able to intercept the ball. Jack is not a great pass rusher, but is more a coverage LB. It will be interesting to watch him play this season, and to see how NFL teams value size, as well as how they value pass rushing vs coverage Linebackers.
