Chiefs RB Jamaal Charles wants to play until the age of 34

Does Chiefs running back Jamaal Charles have 6 more years left in the tank?
Does Chiefs running back Jamaal Charles have 6 more years left in the tank?

There is only one running back in the NFL at the age of 34 and that is Fred Jackson of the Buffalo Bills. He has lost a step or two but is still a very solid runner.  The last time a running back ran for a 1000 yards at the age of 34 was John Riggins back in the 80’s.  It is not an age you see running back’s prosper, but Kansas City Chiefs running back Jamaal Charles is hoping to make it at least until the age of 34.

“I want to play another six years,” Charles said. “I’m seeing guys at 37 or 38 still playing football in the trenches and that’s somewhere where you don’t want to play. So I just want to change the game with the running backs. I want this to last longer and then when I retire, I’ll be happy with where I end my career at.”

Charles is 28 now and is currently 61st in NFL history with 6,856 yards. If he runs for 1,000 yards in each of the next season he will be in 7th all time in NFL history, behind some amazing company.  We shall see…..
