What is the Legal Tampering Period?
It is pretty simple folks, Free Agency starts on March 10th at 4 pm, but agents and teams can begin talking contracts continuously starting today at Noon eastern time.
This is known as the “legal tampering” period of free agency, which gets underway at 12 PM time today, 7 March.
This basically gives teams an opportunity to sit down with players agents to hammer out the framework of a contract, even though said contracts can’t actually be finalized until the new league year starts on Tuesday.
The NFL made this period to cut down the allegations of tampering, because they know that teams were doing that sort of thing in the past anyway, but now it’s actually above board rather than teams having to do things in the shadows.
So at Noon, you can expect teams to be on the phone with agents of players they love to begin talking contracts. Some of these agreements might come out in the media, because the agents and players can agree to the deal, the only problem is the players can sign the deal on Tuesday at 4.
