The Texans like Bryce Petty better than Jameis and Mariota

pettyThe Houston Texans are once again in a quarterback dilemma.  Last year, Bill O’Brien the new head coach of the Texans decided to take Jadeveon Clowney over any of the draftable quarterbacks, but eventually selected Tom Savage in the later rounds.  Well this year, O’Brien has a favorite and it is not Jameis Winston or Marcus Mariota according to Chris Landry a former NFL scout and Combine worker.

At the combine, the Texans met with Florida State quarterback Jameis Winston and had plans to meet with Oregon quarterback Marcus Mariota and Baylor quarterback Bryce Petty.

Chris Landry, told 620 WDAE that Texans head coach Bill O’Brien prefers Bryce Petty to Jameis Winston and Marcus Mariota. Landry adds O’Brien, and many other coaches, were inclined to like Mariota on film more than Jameis Winston, but the real story is Petty. If you listen to the link, Landry talks about Petty at the 36 minute mark.

If this is true, Petty could be a viable option in the second round if the Texans are not able to get Ryan Mallett under contract.  Mallett is in a contract year, and while the Texans would love to have him back, the free agent market for a quarterback is horrendous.  This could be a smart move by the Texans.
