Ryan Mallett wants to return to the Texans
Quarterback Ryan Mallett said on Wednesday he would like to return to the Texans but was careful not to rule out the possibility of signing with another team.
Unless Mallett signs a new contract with the Texans before March 10 when the new league year begins, he’ll become an unrestricted free agent who can sign with any team.
“I’d like to come back,” Mallett said during an appearance at Texas Childrens Hospital. “Hopefully, we can get something worked out.”
“I’m here for the kids, not to discuss my contract,” Mallett said when asked for an update on the negotiations.
O’Brien and general manager Rick Smith have said repeatedly they want Mallett to sign a new contract.
“It feels good that you’re wanted,” Mallett said. “That’s better than not being wanted, I can tell you that.”
