Don Shula has three generations of his family now in the NFL

The San Diego Chargers announced Monday they have hired Chris Shula, grandson of the legendary former Dolphins head coach, as a defensive quality control coach.

“I’m proud of Chris and thrilled about his new position with the Chargers,” Don Shula said. “He’s a hard worker and knows the game well, having grown up in a football environment. I know he will a great addition to the San Diego coaching staff.”

Chris Shula joins the Chargers after serving one season as defensive coordinator at Don Shula’s alma mater, John Carroll University.

Chris is the son of David Shula, who spent seven seasons on his father’s staff with the Dolphins in various capacities as an offensive coach before moving to Dallas and later becoming head coach of the Cincinnati Bengals.
