Mike Shanahan could be back as a head coach soon

Almost exactly a year after being fired by the Washington Redskins, it appears that Mike Shanahan is in the mix for what may be the most attractive NFL coaching vacancy.

According to a report, Shanahan has talked to San Francisco 49ers GM Trent Baalke about that team’s head coaching job.

Matt Maiocco of CSNBayArea.com is reporting that Baalke and Shanahan spoke on Tuesday. It is not known yet if a formal interview for the job will take place but there is at least some degree of mutual interest.

This would still be an interesting hire. Frank Gore and Carlos Hyde would definitely benefit.
