GET TO KNOW: Grant Singer, LB, University of Mary

What this series will do is allow you to be a featured on our site, whether you are a freshman or a senior in college.  This is a series to help get players at any school gain exposure.  We always strive to assist players that have the passion to make it to the next level.  So we hope you enjoy our series called GET TO KNOW. Today’s Get to know series will focus on Grant Singer the hard hitting linebacker from the University of Mary, and we feel at NFL Draft Diamonds, you will want to know all about him.

How many teams were recruiting you out of high school?

10 teams

Where did you choose and why?

The University of Mary. Close to home and enjoyed my visit when I went there. Coaches really made me feel welcomed there.

What were your goals for your senior year?

To make it to playoffs or a bowl game and be an All American.

Have any scouts met with you, and if so what are they saying?

Yes last spring. They didn’t say too much just got information on me before senior year started. Told me to keep doing what I was doing.

At your position, what separates you from the others?

Reaction to the football and the instincts to play the game.

Tell us what you look for when breaking down film?

Tendencies of the other team and seeing where I can take advantage of that team.

If you could compare your play to one person in the NFL who would it be?

Chad Greenway

singer 1What was the biggest obstacle in your life you had to overcome, and how did you overcome it?

My uncle passing away the summer going into my freshman year of college. He was one of my biggest fans and came to a lot of my games in high school. He was like another dad too me. I overcame it by the support of family and friends. It became a motivation for me to play the game of football that much more.

What system fits your style of play the best?

A system where I can play at the Will Linebacker position. A 4-3 defense where I am able to move in and outside of the box

What is your biggest strength?

Lateral speed and explosiveness

What is your biggest weakness?

Shooting the gap fast. I would hesitate and felt I would need to make the tackle on the opposite side of the field.

If I were a GM and gave you a second to sell yourself, what would you say?

I work hard and have a passion to play the game of football.

Growing up, who was your role model?

Father

Who was your favorite team and player in the NFL and why?

Vikings and Jared Allen. I live in North Dakota so growing up the Vikings were the closest team. I like the way Jared Allen always hustles to the ball and never gives up on a play. He’s constantly working hard.

What was the most tragic event that ever happened in your life and how did you overcome it?

I would say once again was my uncle passing away in 2010. The support of family and friends and the strength that God gave me.

If you were to have dinner with three people dead or alive who would it be?

God, Tony Dungy, and George Washington

With your first paycheck what would you buy?

A vehicle
