San Diego Chargers quarterback Philip Rivers finished the game completing 22 of 34 passes for 313-yards and those three scores. For his career, he now has thrown 236 touchdowns, surpassing Donovan McNabb to tie George Blanda for 21st in NFL history. He now is one TD shy of Jim Kelly for 20th and two of Len Dawson for 19th.
Yesterday’s game was the fifth consecutive match-up where Rivers has thrown multiple touchdowns. This tied a personal best for San Diego’s signal caller who first achieved this feat during the first five games of the 2010 season.
While Rivers tied a personal record in Sunday’s win, he also set an NFL record. He became the first quarterback in NFL history to have five straight games posting a passer rating of 120.0 or better after inking a 123.8 rating against the Raiders. This milestone surpassed two of the league’s top quarterbacks in Johnny Unitas and Kurt Warner, who held the record with four games.
