Brett Favre will always be a Green Bay Packer to me

favreSix years ago Brett Favre left the Green Bay Packers, and since that departure the Green Bay Packers have not skipped a beat.  Why is that?  Because Brett Favre taught Aaron Rodgers how to be a leader and gamer in the NFL.  Favre’s departure was rough for many Packers faithful, especially when he signed with the Minnesota Vikings, but at the end of the day, Favre always was a Packer inside his heart.

“I’m truly honored,” Favre said Monday via conference call from his home in Hattiesburg, Mississippi. “It is time to come back.”

The Packers management was worried at one point that the fans would boo Brett if he returned to Wisconsin, but Brett turned to the media a month ago to tell them he didn’t care if he was booed, because he has heard that before.  Well don’t worry, because the team quickly received the message.  In July the team will now retire Favre’s number 4 in Lambeau.

This was a mandatory thing to do in my opinion because Favre will always be a Packer to me.  I grew up a Buffalo Bills fan, but when Thurman Thomas left the Bills to become a Miami Dolphin, I didn’t lose respect for him.  This is a business, and I feel the Packers Management was acting silly by not retiring his number earlier. Let’s face it Brett Favre is a first ballot Hall of Famer, and he will be dawning the Gold Jacket soon, so why not hang his #4 in the rafters?
