Where are the veterans in Cleveland? The team needs a support system

If you look at teams in the AFC North such as the Steelers, Bengals amd Ravens the one thing you notice is the teams supporting cast.

The teams all have a veteran or two that can come in on either side of the ball and assist guys to help them stay out of trouble. In other sports they call those “Leaders”.

Look at Vontaze Burfict, the guy was 55th on the top 100 players list, and his coaching staff embraced him after he fell to an undrafted rookie free agent. The Pro-Bowl middle linebacker has changed and is now making big strides to a new deal.

Look at the Steelers, their coaching staff is amazing. They always have a zero tolerance and put guys around one another to succeed. They have always been known to have veterans on their team to guide their new players.

The Ravens had Ray Lewis for years to guide new guys. After his departure, Terrell Suggs stepped in to fill the shoes. The team also just signed Steve Smith on the offensive side of the ball, who is a very stern leader.

When you look at the Browns roster, they do not really have a leader. Joe Haden could become a great leader, if he took that role. This is not a “me” game, and their are Browns players that need help. Donte’ Whitner is constantly acting like a kid on twitter, picking fights with fans, while Josh Gordon continues to get in trouble. Having guys in town like Johnny Manziel will require leaders. I don’t know what players or coaches are going to step up, but someone needs to very soon before it blows up in their face.
