In 2007, Randy Moss broke Jerry Rice’s record by catching 23 touchdowns while playing for the New England Patriots. Randy Moss is probably a first ballot Hall of Famer, but I found this very interesting statistic and wanted you to know. Did you know Jerry Rice had the record?
Rice caught 22 in 1987. Rice did not play in four games, due to an NFL strike. One game was cancelled and the other three were played by replacement players.
Had Rice played all 16 games and played at his 1987 pace, he would have caught 29 touchdowns, which is just insane. That would be seven better than Moss’ 2007 season. WOW
