Formations Fantasy Football Review: Jacksonville Jaguars
The Jacksonville Jaguars are looking to rebuild their team. Blake Bortles was drafted to be their franchise quarterback, but Chad Henne is the quarterback of the present. What weapons will step up for Jacksonville and for your fantasy team?
Star: Toby Gerhart (RB)
13 Stats: 36 carries-283 yards-2 TD (with Minnesota)
Why He’s a Star: Toby Gerhart no longer has Adrian Peterson in front of him on the depth chart. He is clearly Jacksonville’s starter. While he lacks the talent of a high-end RB, Gerhart will see many carries and in turn, put up points as a solid RB2.
Avoid: Cecil Shorts (WR)
13 Stats: 66 catches-777 yards-3 TDs
Why to Avoid: Not only is Cecil Shorts the Jaguars number one receiver, he also doesn’t have to compete with Justin Blackmon for targets. That being said, Shorts drops many passes and will have two rookie receivers breathing down his neck. He should put up some garbage stats in some games, but he is at best a WR3.
Sleeper: Mercedes Lewis (TE)
Why He’s A Sleeper: Lewis missed 5 games last year, but he had productive games before the injury. He has also scored 4 TDs in each of the past two years. Another plus for Lewis is that other than Cecil Shorts, he doesn’t have any major threats to take away targets. All in all, Chad Henne’s security blanket should be a TE2.
IDP to Watch: Johnathan Cyprien (DB)
13 Stats: 87 tackles-17 assists-1 sack-1 INT
Why: Cyprien put up phenomenal numbers as a rookie. On a defense that should be on the field a lot, Cyprien should see his tackle stats improve even more. If you are looking for a defense back whose name isn’t quite known yet, but will put up fantastic numbers, Johnathan Cyprien is the player for you.
