Bills will lose Kiko Alonso, but that doesn’t kill their season

Wow, you would have thought the Buffalo Bills just lost all hopes because they lost Kiko Alonso to a torn ACL.  Well let me clarify something, while I was a huge Kiko Alonso supporter, do not count out the Bills just yet.  Kiko Alonso was very solid at middle linebacker in 2013, and should have been crowned defensive rookie of the year.  This injury will hurt the Buffalo Bills, because Kiko seemed to always be around the ball, but it does not mean the team is done. You might be asking yourself, What is he talking about? This tweet below is something I am talking about.

Bills defense no longer a team strength following Alonso injury?

The Buffalo Bills are now faced with finding a replacement so to speak, but he could already be on the roster.  The Buffalo Bills drafted Preston Brown who is primarily a middle linebacker but he has the assets to play the weakside.  Brown ran a 4.75 forty yard dash at the Combine and was relatively good against the run.  His flaws are definitely playing the pass. He will not be a good option at covering, but he could be a very solid option at replacing Alonso.

Another player people need to watch out for is Ty Powell.  The Buffalo Bills signed the former seventh round draft pick off the New York Giants practice squad.  Powell is very high on the Buffalo Bills. Powell is a small school linebacker from Harding that had a very solid forty yard dash at the Combine. He too is suspect in pass coverage, but the Bills could use him on early downs or in pass rush situations.

The Bills also signed Keith Rivers the former New York Giants linebacker and first round draft pick. He has been a very good player both on and off the field. He might be the best fit for the Bills strong side spot, but he could also be used in coverage on the weak side.

Lastly the Bills have a guy that they drafted named Nigel Bradham. The team loved him coming out of Florida State, but he has not been able to really break the plain as a starter.  Well this year Bradham and his 4.60 speed might be a huge blessing for the Bills.  Bradham is a very hard hitter, that made a name for himself in Florida State when players came across the middle.  If he can make plays in the pre-season he could be the most obvious choice to replace Alonso, but I still believe the Bills will use a rotation.

The Legend of Kiko will still reign in Buffalo, but which one of these guys will be the man that steps up to fill the void?  Whomever it is remember this, The Buffalo Bills are far from being OUT, because of one player.
