Vikings coach will not name a starting quarterback, yet

All signs point to Matt Cassel as the heavy favorite to open the season as the Minnesota Vikings’ quarterback, but coach Mike Zimmer has no intention of naming a starter until well into training camp.

“I want to give everybody an opportunity and make sure that it’s a legitimate opportunity for all of them,” Zimmer said Tuesday after the Vikings opened their mandatory minicamp. “Then we’ll start narrowing down the reps as we get going. But it won’t be for a while.”

While the Vikings would like to start Teddy Bridgewater, both Cassell and Ponder have said the Vikings agenda is to get Teddy ready. If Teddy looks good in pre-season, he could be the starter sooner rather than later.
