Could the New England Patriots cut Ryan Mallett?

Does Bill O’Brien the former Patriots offensive coordinator  know something that we as media don’t?  The New England Patriots usually do not carry 3 quarterbacks on their roster, and there is a very good reason for that, because their quarterback is probably the best quarterback to play the game over the past 10 years.  Tom Brady is a stud, and now the team drafted a quarterback or future heir apparent to Brady in Jimmy Garoppolo.  There have been tons of rumors saying the Patriots will trade the teams former draft pick Ryan Mallett, but that has not happened yet.

The Texans are saying they are not going to trade for Mallett, but let’s face it their quarterback situation is horrible in Houston.  That is why their star wide receiver is currently upset, but could the Texans be playing hard ball?  Ryan Mallett is a good quarterback, but if Mallett does not have a good preseason could he be a guy the team releases?

I honestly do not feel the Patriots would let him go for free, but could this happen?  I still feel that the Texans are the best team to land Mallett, and Mike Meltser agrees with me.

“When you have a quarterback situation where your guys are Ryan Fitzpatrick, Case Keenum, T.J. Yates and the newly-drafted Tom Savage. . . Andre Johnson was hurt by this draft. There’s no way the Texans can win big this year — there’s just no way with that quarterback group,” said Meltser.

I don’t think Bill O’Brien can obviously outsmart the mastermind Bill Belichick but if the team does release Mallett, they are crazy.
