Could Matt Cassel land in Houston with his former coach Bill O’Brien?

Bill O’Brien is of course no stranger to the NFL. He worked for the New England Patriots from 2007-2011 as an assistant, wide receiver and quarterback coach. He was also promoted to be the team’s offensive coordinator in 2011. Over the past two seasons, O’Brien had been navigating through a difficult situation at PSU. However, despite numerous NCAA sanctions against the school, he’s kept the program relevant and respectable.

O’Brien is now in Houston and has the first pick in the NFL Draft.  Could he go after Matt Cassel who voided his contract today?  Matt Cassel will be a free agent looking to sign a deal where he can compete.  Why wouldn’t coach want a player that knows and understands his system?   It makes too much sense that this happens.  O’Brien worked with Cassel in New England and had pretty good success with him.

Where will Cassel land? Look at teams with coaches who he has played for: Texans, Patriots, Steelers (unlikely), Vikings (of course).
