Draft Diamonds Prospect Interview: LaDon Hudson, WR, Mid America Nazarene

LaDon Hudson is 6’4″, 215 pound wide out that had great hands and speed.  The big time standout went to the FCS Senior Scout Bowl and came away with the Most Valuable Player award.  Because of his amazing play he has earned a spot to participate in the Kansas State Pro Day.  Several teams are very interested in LaDon, I would not be surprised to see this big target get a shot in the NFL. I chose American River College because they were going to give me a chance to play Wide Receiver. Everybody wanted me for LB or Rover and I didn’t want to play defense in college.

For my senior year, I wanted to win a National Championship, become a 1st Team All American, and to finish at the top of the league as a team. Ended up only becoming a 1st Team All American.

None have actually met with me just communicating through my coaches and agent, Brad Berkowitz. Five teams have shown free agency interest with the exception of one who said if I ran a good enough 40 at the Kansas St. Pro Day that they are interested in drafting me late rounds.

I have great hands, my route running is above average and I can adapt very quickly to any system. I learn concepts and play books with ease.

I look for the safeties alignment and movement along with the movements of linebackers.

The toughest I faced would have to be Kameron Riley on my team at practice. He was identical to my size just a little faster. He was smart and picked up on some of my favorite moves and how I like to get open to counteract my route.

Anquan Boldin minus the size difference. Very tough receiver that goes for evey ball. May not be the fastest but we will sure be where we need to be on time. Also making the toughest catches. A chain mover.

My biggest obstacle was not following the crowd around me. I always wanted to do what my friends were doing and it was always opposite of what I had intended to do. I overcame this by choosing my friends more carefully and putting my faith in God. If they were my true friends and saw what I wanted to do, they would push me to that and not drag me with them on their path.

Four Wide Receiver spread offense. More of an air raid attack.

Getting open and making every catch. Also working with Jerry Rice at the NFTC who told me that my only job was to catch the ball. And with Andre Rison who helped me work on my routes.

Not being a blazing fast type receiver. If I had that speed I would only be more deadly. Just a lack of speed coaching.

I am an asset to any offense and I can be a big playmaker. You don’t have to worry about any off the field issues, I won’t be a distraction or cancer to the team. I am a hardworking young man willing to go great lengths to be successful. I’m also very knowledgable about the game, coachable, and put the integrity of the league and my team before myself.

My role model was my father, Art Hudson. No matter what we went through I always wanted to be just like him.

As of high school my favorite team is the 49ers. Back in the day my favorite players were Michael Vick and Sean Taylor. I liked these two because it was always going to be something big to happen when they were on the field. I loved their playmaking ability. Now my favorite player is Calvin Johnson, I love how he goes and gets the ball no matter how many people are around him. And because that’s the kind of receiver I try to be.

Most tragic event in my life was losing my grandma at a young age. Seeing the hurt my dad was going through and losing someone I was so close too really hurt. I got through it by listening to my family telling me she was in a better place. I was so young I didn’t understand at first but than I just had to accept it.

My grandma Selest, My great aunt Ollie Brock, and my little brothers dad Mike.

Put my mom in a more stable position in life, secure my family living status, start a trust fund for my daughter. Look to invest to sustain financial stability throughout my time of living and growing old.
