Could the 49ers move on from Frank Gore if Lattimore shines in the preseason?

Last year the San Francisco 49ers drafted running back Marcus Lattimore who was coming off one of the worst looking knee injuries ever in the NCAA.  The team drafted Lattimore with the notion of him being able to replace the veteran back Frank Gore, who is still getting the job done.  Well today Marcus Lattimore talked to the Associated Press and told them he is felling great.

Marcus Lattimore feels close to 100 percent and is counting down the days until he can run free and easy for the San Francisco 49ers.

“The left knee, it feels like nothing ever happened,” Lattimore told The Associated Press by phone. “The right knee, it feels great. Both feel balanced. I’ve got my speed and I rarely get any soreness” after workouts.

If Lattimore comes out in preseason and does a great job, could the Niners look to cut Frank Gore?

General manager Trent Baalke of the 49ers hinted Friday at the NFL combine that the team won’t ask running back Frank Gore to take a pay cut, but could they show him the door?

The Niners look like they’re in a good spot to finally reduce his workload with backups Kendall Hunter, LaMichael James and Marcus Lattimore.

Gore, who turns 31 in May, is due to make $6.45 million in the last year of his contract, it will be interesting to see how Lattimore does in the preseason.
