2014 NFL Draft: Top 5 QB Prospects outside the first round

I wanted to make a list different than anyone else on the web’s lists because we root for the underdog on NFL Draft Diamonds.  Even though we feel a 2nd round pick is still high, we have found five guys who we consider great options outside of the first round. We will start the list off with one of my favorite prospects.

Tajh Boyd – QB – Clemson – He threw for over 3,800 yards and more than 33 touchdowns in each of the past three seasons. The last two seasons, he completed at least 67 percent of his passes. Boyd can be a dual threat quarterback in the NFL which makes him intriguing to some teams.  Teams are looking for their guy that can come in and be the next Russell Wilson/Colin Kaepernick.  Boyd lost a few pounds and displayed great touch at the Senior Bowl.  I think Boyd is going to be a steal for someone.

Jeff Matthews – QB – Cornell – While many might have Jimmy Garoppolo higher on their list, I am sticking with what I have seen on film.  Jeff Matthews has it all, he can zip a ball with great rotation, and has no problem with accuracy.  His receivers at Cornell were not the greatest, but I feel he will be a very solid prospect for years to come.

A.J. McCarron – QB – Alabama – While Alabama do not have a great track record in the NFL, I have a good feeling about A.J.  The kid is a winner that gets the job done.  I love the way the kid plays, he has great vision and can feel the pressure from the outside edge.  McCarron does a great job at spreading the ball and will be a very solid quarterback in the NFL.

Logan Thomas – QB – Virginia Tech – People might not love this kids film, but his intangibles are off the charts.  He is a big kid, with a cannon.  I believe Thomas can make every throw NFL teams want, and he will be a steal for some team later in the draft. Thomas can really spin a ball, and displayed a huge arm at the Senior Bowl.

Aaron Murray – QB – Georgia – Murray suffered an injury that really killed him when it comes to the draft, but he was a winner at a great program.  Murray seems like a great kid and someone that is a student of the game.  It is too bad that Murray’s senior season was cut short by an injury but expect this kid to rebound big time.
