Nick Foles is playing at a high level, but imagine if he had Jeremy Maclin

Nick Foles’ rise from backup quarterback to perhaps an MVP candidate has been the biggest surprise to me in the NFL. He’s 6-2 as a starter since taking over for Michael Vick, and has the Eagles on the verge of winning the NFC East after finishing 4-12 last season. They’re one game ahead of Dallas (7-7) with two weeks remaining. The Eagles host Chicago (8-6) on Sunday night. Foles was questioned after his historic performance in which the Eagles lost but Foles threw for a career high 428 yards and three touchdowns. Unfortunately, he was killed by the media for his 18 incompletions and one interception.

“I think that when you have success, people’s expectations do grow,” Foles said. “When they see you play consistently well every week, then that’s what they expect, and that’s what I expect. I expect nothing different, but I can’t let a game where I feel like I didn’t play well and didn’t help our team as much as I should have affect me to where I can’t play at that level.

“I’m going to continue to strive every week to play at that level. My goal going into the game is to play a perfect game. In reality, that isn’t really possible, but that’s why you have that short memory throughout the game.”

Well Eagles fans you have to remember that Nick Foles is doing this without Jeremy Maclin who has been sidelined all year. I know Maclin is a free agent, but let’s say the Eagles retain him. Do you realize that 90 plus targets went to him in the previous 4 years? Imagine Nick Foles having Jeremy Maclin on the field instead of Riley Cooper? Maclin has world class speed and is a stud. His worst season since coming in the NFL was in 2009 his rookie year when he had 773 yards and 4 touchdowns. The Eagles are missing a guy that has scored 26 touchdowns in his career. Imagine giving Nick Foles that toy as well? They could be making a legitimate shot at the Super Bowl not just fighting to hang on to the playoff hunt.
