Vikings former punter is officially suing the team for “Anti-Gay” comments
The Minnesota Vikings are officially being sued by Chris Kluwe. Their former punter Chris Kluwe has announced plans to sue the Minnesota Vikings over apparently refusing to publish the findings of an investigation into his claims that a team coach used anti-gay comments during the 2012 season.
Kluwe and his attorney, Clayton Halunen, said on Tuesday they had knowledge that the six-month independent investigation corroborated the athlete’s allegations against special teams coach Mike Priefer, who is accused of using homophobic slurs and displaying hateful behavior.
Kluwe said at a press conference held at IDS Center in Minneapolis that the team is going back on its promise to disclose the investigation’s findings.
It’s important that everybody is able to see what’s there. It will probably hurt, these things always do, but the only way we’re ever going to fix it is if we acknowledge that and make changes – systematic changes – all the way through the organization, up through management and say that we’re not going to tolerate this kind of thing anymore, we’re not going to tolerate our people being discriminated against.
This is not a very good look for the Vikings, they might just want to release the information to the public and take it on the chin. If it becomes a court document it will be in the open public anyway, which means it is going to happen regardless. Kluwe’s NFL career is over, and if he can prove that he will not be given a job as well, he could get a bigger settlement from the Vikings and the NFL.
